Most harnesses hang from a dog's neck. For a senior dog with a stiff, sore neck, that's exactly where you don't want the pressure. The American River's patented choke-free design pulls from the chest instead — the leash pressure lands on the sternum, never the throat or trachea.

It's a step-in harness, so nothing has to go over your dog's head: two paws in, one clip, done. The soft mesh body is gentle on thin senior coats and skin, and it adjusts for a secure, comfortable fit.

Why we picked it: sizes run all the way to 3X-Large (up to 90 pounds), so the big senior dogs most brands forget are covered here. If your dog is between sizes, size up.
